DESCRIPTION:

Final project design tendered for the demolition and reconstruction of an elementary school on Via Strozzi in Milan. The new building consists of a three-story classroom building, a hall, a gym, changing rooms, an auditorium and a library. The supporting structure of the new school is made of X-Lam plywood, and the floors are constructed using wooden joists with X-Lam panels that guarantee load-bearing with a light structure. Innovative solutions have been envisaged for the electrical systems, characterized by the use of LED lighting pathways, a solar power system, a smoke detection and fire prevention system, sound diffusion system, an evacuation system, an electricity consumption monitoring and building automation systems. Heat pumps and radiant ceiling panels have been planned for the mechanical systems. The new constructions are equipped with insulators and fresh air exchange systems for high performance energy saving.
