Hydrogen
Hydrogen is emerging as a promising ally in the challenge of energy transition. It is, in fact, a clean energy carrier that enables the storage of large amounts of energy without generating CO₂ emissions during its use.
When produced from renewable electricity through the process of water electrolysis, it is referred to as green hydrogen. This technology makes it possible to increase the penetration of non-dispatchable renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, into the energy mix by utilizing surplus electricity during peak production periods. The stored hydrogen can then be combusted to generate heat or used in fuel cells to produce electricity.
Hydrogen is also a valuable alternative for the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors, such as cement, glass, and steel, as well as the transport sector.
ETS operates in this sector with strong growth prospects, offering extensive experience and significant engineering expertise. An example is the techno-economic feasibility study for the construction of a hydrogen pipeline in the municipality of Brescia to transport hydrogen via pipeline.
